Her father eventually took over as her primary coach, while her mother monitored her homeschooling. Growing up, her father had little experience playing tennis. Gauff began training at the Mouratoglou Academy in France at the age of ten, under the tutelage of Serena Williams’ longtime coach, Patrick Mouratoglou.

Gauff began her 2023 season in the Auckland Open, where she defeated Rebeka Makarova in straight sets in the final. Gauff got to the fourth round of the 2023 Australian Open, where she was defeated in straight sets by Jeena Ostapenko.

Gauff advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2023 Qatar Total Open after defeating two-time champion Petra Kvitová in the second round.

Gauff won her first major singles victory on September 9, defeating Aryna Sabalenka in three sets and becoming the first American teenager to do so since Serena Williams in 1999.
