Candi and Corey Gauff raised Gauff in Delray Beach, Florida. Her younger brothers are two years younger than she is. Her father was a Georgia State University basketball player before becoming a healthcare executive.

Her mother was a track and field athlete at Florida State University who also taught. Gauff’s parents gave up their jobs to concentrate on their daughter’s schooling.

Her father soon became her primary coach, while her mother oversaw her homeschooling. Her father had minimal experience playing tennis as a child. At the age of ten, Gauff began studying at the Mouratoglou Academy in France, under the direction of Serena Williams’ longtime coach, Patrick Mouratoglou.

Gauff defeated two-time winner Petra Kvitová in the second round of the 2023 Qatar Total Open to get to the quarterfinals.

On September 9, Gauff defeated Aryna Sabalenka in three sets to earn her maiden major singles triumph, becoming the first American teen to do it since Serena Williams in 1999.

Coco Gauff won the US Open, her maiden Grand Slam title, at the age of 19. Gauff won her maiden major title on Saturday, defeating Aryna Sabalenka 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the U.S. Open final, exciting a rowdy audience that cheered from start to end. Coco Gauff’s primary coach is Pere Riba, a former ATP World No. 65.
