Gauff was born to Candi and Corey Gauff in Delray Beach, Florida. Two years her junior are her younger brothers. Before he became a healthcare executive, her father played basketball for Georgia State University.

Her mother was a track and field competitor at Florida State University and a teacher. Gauff’s parents left their jobs to concentrate on Gauff’s education.

Over time, her father took over as her primary coach while her mother oversaw her at-home education. Her father wasn’t much of a tennis player growing up. At the age of ten, Gauff started receiving instruction at the Mouratoglou Academy in France from Patrick Mouratoglou, who has been Serena Williams’ longtime coach.

Gauff defeated two-time winner Petra Kvitová in the second round of the 2023 Qatar Total Open to get to the quarterfinals.

On September 9, Gauff defeated Aryna Sabalenka in three sets to earn her maiden major singles triumph, becoming the first American teen to do it since Serena Williams in 1999.
